We are Canadian immigration lawyers in Toronto who believe your immigration application deserves dedicated, focused advocacy. Lev Abramovich

Partner

A founding partner of Abramovich Immigration Law and a skilled litigator, Lev focuses exclusively on immigration and refugee law. His practice is focused on immigration litigation, personal immigration, and refugee law matters.

Lev has successfully represented clients at all levels of Ontario Courts. He routinely appears before the Federal Court and divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada with respect to judicial reviews, appeals, inadmissibility-related issues, and other immigration cases.

Lev knows nobody wants to go to court. He takes pride in being able to see the big picture and anticipate issues before they arise. His goal is to achieve his immigration clients’ goals without litigation. But, when issues become contentious, he’s the immigration advocate you need.

This litigation lens means that when Lev assists businesses and individuals with their routine immigration needs, he crafts persuasive cases that anticipate challenges and take into account how adjudicators and immigration decision-makers think.

When he’s not helping his clients solve their immigration problems, Lev serves as a director for a Canadian-based technology recruitment firm, helping Canadian employers hire top international technology talent.

Lev obtained his LL.B at the University of Windsor, after obtaining a Bachelor of Philosophy from the University of Windsor. During law school, Lev volunteered at the Freedom House of Detroit, helping with Canadian and US refugee claims. In addition to English, Lev is also fluent in Russian.

Anna Aazam

Lawyer

Anna Aazam is a senior immigration lawyer with more than a decade of experience assisting individuals and families with complex immigration matters. Her practice focuses on refugee protection claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, temporary resident permits, inadmissibility matters, sponsorship appeals, and Federal Court litigation.

Anna has extensive experience representing clients before all divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, including the Refugee Protection Division, Refugee Appeal Division, Immigration Division, and Immigration Appeal Division. She regularly assists clients in refugee claims, cessation and vacation proceedings, admissibility hearings, detention reviews, and spousal sponsorship appeals. She is particularly experienced in helping individuals overcome immigration obstacles arising from prior refusals, status issues, and inadmissibility concerns.

Over the course of her career, Anna has successfully secured both temporary and permanent resident status for clients facing complex legal and procedural challenges. She is also experienced in preparing humanitarian and compassionate applications and Temporary Resident Permit applications for individuals seeking relief in exceptional circumstances.

Anna earned her Bachelor of Arts from McGill University in 2007 and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom in 2011. She subsequently pursued advanced legal studies at the University of Strasbourg before obtaining a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto in 2014.

Before entering private practice, Anna worked for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in both Canada and the United Kingdom, providing her with valuable insight into the immigration decision-making process. She later practised as an associate lawyer at a prominent immigration litigation firm, where she focused on refugee law, removals, and Federal Court proceedings.

Today, Anna regularly represents clients before the Federal Court and the Immigration and Refugee Board, advocating for individuals facing some of the most challenging and high-stakes immigration situations.

Anna is fluent in English, French, and Ukrainian, and has a strong working knowledge of Spanish.

Sara Pesko

Lawyer

Sara’s practice focuses on immigration litigation, including inadmissibility findings and rejections, as well as citizenship by descent applications.

Sara joined Abramovich Immigration Law after being called to the Ontario Bar in March 2024. Prior to joining Abramovich Immigration Law, Sara completed litigation-intensive articles with the Ministry of the Attorney General, where she regularly appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Sara has also interned at the Hague Conference on Private International Law in The Hague, Netherlands, gaining valuable experience with international law.

During law school, Sara volunteered with the International Refugee Assistance Project, working with and advocating for refugees and displaced persons.

Since joining Abramovich Immigration Law, Sara has already secured several important successes before the Federal Court, helping clients challenge unreasonable immigration decisions as well as processing delays.

Sara’s empathetic and persuasive advocacy is informed by her personal immigration experience. She immigrated to Canada with her family following the civil war in the former Yugoslavia.

Sara holds two law degrees from McGill University, a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Civil Law. Prior to law school, she obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science from McMaster University.
In addition to English, Sara speaks Serbo-Croatian and some French.

Nika Arbabzadeh Broujeni

Associate Lawyer

As an associate lawyer at Abramovich Immigration Law, Nika assists individuals and families navigating the complexities of Canada’s immigration and refugee system, with a particular focus on immigration litigation work.

Nika completed her articling with one of Canada’s leading full-service immigration firms and subsequently worked at a respected boutique, where she gained broad experience across the spectrum of immigration matters. She has assisted clients with family sponsorships, refugee claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, residency obligation issues, inadmissibility determinations, and citizenship applications.

Committed to precision and diligence, Nika approaches each file with a strong research foundation and meticulous attention to detail. She is dedicated to ensuring that every application and submission reflects the highest professional standard, while remaining responsive and transparent with clients throughout the process.

During law school, Nika volunteered with several immigration and refugee law organizations, including Matthew House, a leading Toronto-based charity supporting refugee resettlement. Nika holds a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School and a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from York University. She is fluent in English and Farsi.

Sonja Pesko

Lawyer

Sonja’s practice is focused on personal and corporate immigration. Before joining Abramovich Immigration Law in April 2022, Sonja worked at a full-service Toronto law firm, where her practice focused on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and general securities law. After more than three years of fast-paced and high-stakes corporate practice, she decided to pursue her passion for working with people. She uses the skills developed in a high-stakes and high-pressure environment to deliver exceptional results for the firm’s clients.

As an immigrant herself, Sonja deeply understands the unique challenges immigrants face when navigating the Canadian immigration system. These experiences have shaped her own practice and made her a compassionate and zealous advocate.

Sonja holds two law degrees, a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Civil Law, from McGill University. She completed her articles at a large international law firm, gaining litigation experience during her articles. Prior to law school, she obtained an Honours Bachelor of Commerce, followed by a Master’s Degree in Globalization. Sonja is a native speaker of English, Serbo-Croatian, and some French.

Alexandra Shemen

Immigration Clerk

Alexandra has worked in the legal industry as a law clerk and licensed paralegal for several years prior to joining Abramovich Immigration Law.

She supports lawyers throughout the application process for immigration matters. Alexandra has considerable experience with respect to personal immigration and immigration litigation.

Alexandra takes pride in her ability to assist clients in achieving success and is dedicated to helping them navigate the legal system with dignity and respect.

Alexandra earned her BA with Honours in Criminology, with a minor in Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. She completed her Paralegal Studies at Durham College where she graduated on the President’s Honour Roll. She is a Licensed Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Alona Kishchenko

Immigration Clerk

Alona is an immigration clerk at Abramovich Immigration Law. As a foreign-trained lawyer, Alona brings a broad legal perspective including her past corporate law experience to assist the firm’s individual and corporate clients.

Prior to joining Abramovich Immigration Law, Alona worked at a full-service immigration firm in Toronto, where she gained experience with respect to a broad range of personal and corporate immigration applications. Her international background and Canadian immigration law experience make her an asset to the firm and its clients.

Alona holds a master’s degree in civil law from the Donetsk Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
